Good luck! Hope this helpsĮdit: if you want to make it colourful, change each X to a 1,2,3,etc and conditional format the table so that if the cell equals that number, then format it as red, blue, green, etc.Note: The basic outline for this course and Normally I'd include some formulas for you but its home time. This is a bit rough, and I'm sure it could be improved. The end date of that is the same as before, the class 2 start date, plus however many days class 2 takes. Then the second class start date will be the end date of class 1 plus 1 day (assuming they'll start the next day). So if the first class is 30hrs over 4 days, then you'll need to have the end date be the start date plus 4. Then each subsequent class will need to relate to the class before. If you want all the dates to shift then you'll want to add a row/column to your table for the number of days that equate to 30hrs work. I need to be able to say ''actually this class has now been finished in 15 hours instead of 30'' and for all the following classes' end dates to readjust accordingly. Repeat for each row ad infinitum and change the reference dates to class 2,3,4,etc and you should achieve the same effect for each corresponding row. Repeat that for all cells along that row and hopefully the dates that fall outside of the start/finish times should stay blank, and you'll have a lovely row of X's that'll lengthen or shorten if you alter the end date of the class.Īnd I want the chart to go on for all the 26 classes they need to take. IF the cell date is greater than the start date (It'll use the excel date serial) AND less than the end date, THEN make it an X, if not, make it "" (Excel sees quotation marks as text, so two quotation marks will give you a blank cell. In each cell along row 2, you'll need compare the date of the corresponding date in row 1 with the class dates. You'll want something like the start/end dates of all the classes in a separate table first, and for the gantt chart all the dates in a row along row 1. If students come to class 15 hours a week like I said, and a student starts a 30 hours class on, I want the chart to show that it should be done by You might be better off using a project management program that's more tailor made to suit things like this. you have a number of different things going on here. I'm sorry if this is a bit confusing or if it's lacking information please feel free to ask me if you need more information ! I'd like to know how to go about it efficiently and if there's a template I could start from to make it a bit less of a pain. We're no Excel experts and we've now taken dozens of hours to make. We've tried a couple of things but this is really taking forever because my colleague and I have no idea what we're doing. And the planner needs to adjust according to how long they've taken to complete previous classes. Since they can finish the class in less than the allotted time, I need to be able to say ''actually this class has now been finished in 15 hours instead of 30'' and for all the following classes' end dates to readjust accordingly.īasically, what I'm trying to make is a planner for students (and for administration) to know at which date each class should be done. And I want the chart to go on for all the 26 classes they need to take.īut here's the catch, and that's pretty much where I have zero idea what to do. Then, on the second line, I want the second class, which is, let's say, another 30 hours, to start on and end on. So for example, if students come to class 15 hours a week like I said, and a student starts a 30 hours class on, I want the chart to show that it should be done by. So basically what I want to make is a Gantt chart that features all of the classes they need to take and for the chart to show, depending on the date that they started the class, when they should be done with it. But as I said, students work at their own pace, so sometimes they will only take 15 hours to complete a 30 hours class. Each class takes a different number of hours to accomplish, between 30 and 120. There are 26 classes that they have to take, one after the other. Meaning, students work at their own pace. So I work for a school that does individualized teaching. I know how to use Excel, I know where the functions are, but I'm not very good at it, at all. So, I've been looking around for a bit and haven't really found something that is exactly what I need or that I even know how to change.
