Some MMO-like elements being added somewhere down the line is more likely, and even that is still too early to discuss in any detail. The workload would be immense, and we would effectively be making Barotrauma into a whole another game, so a full-fledged MMO mode is probably not in the books for us. We have many things in the Hopes and dreams section of our Trello board that are quite unlikely to happen, and this is one of those. On to the topic itself, I must unfortunately temper your expectations. This is probably not important at all, but just to be clear! The text is from the transcript of a live Discord QnA session we did, quite some time ago. Hi! A slight correction – while I made that post on the old forums that you quoted there, I was in fact quoting something a colleague had written before, so those there are not my words. Pick up some fresh players, build a few fresh components for your ship, and set off again.Ĭomments, ideas, suggestions, dreams about Barotrauma MMO are welcome. Imagine pulling into station along side other submarines, trading the items you took from sinking another player ship you looted and getting thorium from a mining crew that just retrieved it or just transported it. But yeah, this might be a pretty far-fetched idea, so don’t get your hopes too high yet. You could do things like team up with another crew to complete a mission, run into a renegade crew that tries to pillage your sub, meet up with others on outposts and so on. One crazy (and most likely very out-of-scope) idea I’ve been thinking of is some kind of an MMO-like mode, where multiple crews and subs play together on the same campaign map. We do have some ideas and plans of our own for the time after the full release too. Q: What's your dream for Barotrauma, and how does that differ from the planned early access release, and even planned full release? Please be honest, even if it's very unlikely to become a reality. Here is a quote from Dynamoon (developer?) on the old Barotrauma Forums, when asked Submarines could meet each other along their journeys or at outposts and the crews could interact in various ways: trading, working together to complete a mission, raiding other subs.ĭo note that implementing something like this would be a massive task, probably more suitable for a sequel than an expansion of Barotrauma, and as of now we have no concrete plans on adding it. (also the highest voted task of all)ĭozens/hundreds of concurrent coop campaigns running in a single persistent map. Here is the current Trello task from the developers. Personally I think this would make Barotrauma one of the most epic games ever. I am making this thread to discuss the MMO version of Barotrauma that would potentially be released in the future.
